About Us
The Story of SOBA Canada
From the hills of Buea to the vast landscapes of Canada — a brotherhood that spans continents and generations.
Our History
A Heritage Rooted in Sasse
SOBA Canada is the national association of Sasse Old Boys residing in Canada. Re-registered federally in 2025, SOBA Canada exists to unite alumni of St. Joseph's College Sasse, Buea, through faith, brotherhood, excellence, service, mentorship and community impact.
Our story is rooted in St. Joseph's College Sasse, Buea — opened on February 1, 1939 by the Mill Hill Missionaries and known for shaping generations of disciplined, service-minded leaders. SOBA Canada carries that legacy into the Canadian context by connecting alumni, supporting families, mentoring younger generations and giving back to Sasse and the wider community.
From its early formation, SOBA Canada has grown across Edmonton, Calgary and Ontario, with a vision to strengthen member engagement, support newcomers, preserve Sasse heritage, mentor younger generations and create meaningful service projects within Canada and beyond. SOBA Canada also honours the pioneering Soban community in Montreal that has carried the brotherhood in Canada since 1993.
Rooted in the motto Fides Quaerens Intellectum — Faith Seeking Understanding — SOBA Canada carries forward the values that shaped generations of Sasse students: discipline, academic excellence, humility, courage, leadership, respect, responsibility and service to the common good.
The association connects members through chapter activities, national conventions, professional networking, faith-based gatherings, cultural events, sports, community service, charitable initiatives and family-centred events.
Our Mission
To unite Sasse Old Boys across Canada through faith, brotherhood, mentorship, service, leadership and community impact while preserving the legacy and values of St. Joseph's College Sasse.
Our Vision
To become a respected national alumni organisation that strengthens SOBANS in Canada, supports future generations, promotes excellence and service, and keeps the Sasse spirit alive across borders.
"Fides Quaerens Intellectum"
Faith Seeking Understanding
Drawn from the philosophy of St. Augustine and St. Anselm, the motto anchors a Sasse education in the conviction that the life of a scholar is incomplete without first proceeding from a position of faith.
